Mayan Beaches (“we”, “us”, or “our”) operates the website at https://mayanbeaches.com. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the site, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run a free public conditions tool.

Information we collect

We only collect information you actively give us, plus the standard technical data any website receives.

Email address (alerts). If you sign up for daily sargassum alerts, we store the email address you enter so we can send you the update. Every alert email includes a one-click unsubscribe link.
Condition reports. If you submit a beach report, we store what you send — the beach, your rating, your optional name or note, and any photo you attach. Do not include personal information you don't want reviewed; reports are read by a human before anything is published, and we may quote or publish the beach, rating, note, and photo on the site.
Technical log data. Like all websites, our host receives standard request data (IP address, browser type, referring page, and time of visit) to serve pages and protect against abuse.
Cookies. The site itself does not require login and sets no tracking cookies of its own. Third parties we use for advertising may set cookies — see “Advertising and cookies” below.

How we use your information

To send the daily alert emails you asked for.
To review, verify, and where appropriate publish community reports.
To operate, secure, and improve the site.
To respond to messages you send us.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your email address for anything other than the alerts you requested and any reply you send us.

Resend — delivery of the daily alert email.

Each provider processes data under its own privacy policy.

Data retention

We keep alert sign-ups until you unsubscribe. We keep submitted reports for as long as they are useful for verifying conditions. You can ask us to delete your email address or a report you submitted at any time.

Your choices and rights

Unsubscribe from alerts using the link in any alert email, or by emailing us.
Opt out of personalized ads using the links in “Advertising and cookies” above.
Access or delete the personal data we hold about you by emailing mayanbeaches@gmail.com. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA; we honor valid requests regardless of location.

Children's privacy

This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site evolves or as laws change. When we do, we'll revise the “Effective” date above. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
