Mayan Beaches is free to use. We keep it that way through three revenue sources, all disclosed here in the interest of transparency and in keeping with FTC guidance on endorsements.

Display advertising

We show ads served by Google AdSense. These are marked as advertisements and are selected by Google, not hand-picked by us. Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other sites; you can control this in our Privacy Policy under “Advertising and cookies”.

Affiliate links

Some outbound links — mainly to tours and travel insurance — are affiliate links. If you click one and make a booking, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The price you pay is the same as it would be otherwise. Our current affiliate partners include:

  • Viator (tours and activities)
  • GetYourGuide (tours and activities)
  • Travel insurance providers

Affiliate links are marked with rel="sponsored" in the page markup, as search engines request.

Resort sponsorships

Resorts and beach clubs can pay for placements on the site. Every sponsored placement is clearly labeled “Sponsored”. Details are on our For resorts page.

The line we don't cross

None of the above changes a beach's rating. Ratings are never for sale — a beach we read as heavy stays heavy even if a sponsor or affiliate partner would prefer otherwise. Advertising and commissions fund the tool; they do not influence what we tell you about the seaweed. That independence is the only reason the ratings are worth reading.
